Taxi company Uber Vietnam cuts fares

HCM City (VNA) – Taxi company Uber Vietnam has recently announced that it has cut the fare of its UberX service in HCM City by 15 percent. The price of the service is now 7,000 VND per kilometre. The company attributed the new price policy to a decline in petrol prices. The prices applied at the current time may be changed based on the market, the company said. In another development, Uber has announced many programmes to support their drivers in Hanoi and HCM City. Vietnam Airlines sets up new VASCO airline

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Airlines Corp officially set up a new airline based on the restructuring of its subsidiary Vietnam Air Services Co (VASCO), the national carrier said in a press release on March 7. The new airline will be named VASCO and has a minimum charter capital of 300 billion VND (13.43 million USD) and about 10 airplanes. Vietnam Airlines will hold 51 percent of the venture, while the Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Banks (Techcombank) will have a 49 percent stake. Restaurant chains: Burger King encounters problems, others leaving market

Emirates Airlines to operate non-stop flight to Hanoi

Hanoi (VNA) – Emirates Airlines, a leading carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will launch daily flights connecting Dubai-Hanoi and Dubai-Yangon (Myanmar) from March 8th. In its announcement on February 25, the airline said that expanding services to those cities will help the airline consolidate its network in the Southeast Asian region while bringing new options to passengers. Sapporo Beer to scale up operations in Vietnam

Tokyo (VNA) – Sapporo Holdings Ltd President Tsutomu Kamijo unveiled that the oldest beer brand in Japan wants to expand operations in Vietnam. He anticipated the company’s beer sales in Vietnam might overtake the figure for Japan by 2020. Labour rights violations inspected in apparel industry

A pilot labour inspection campaign in the apparel industry uncovered 1,786 violations at 152 businesses in 12 cities and provinces across the country, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA). The inspections were conducted from May to September this year by MoLISA inspectors in co-ordination with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. MoLISA Deputy Minister Huynh Van Ty said the apparel industry was chosen for the test inspections because it had been a key foreign currency earner for Vietnam in recent years, bringing in 13.6 percent of the country’s export revenue and 10.5…

Vietnam, Japan seek stronger IT cooperation

Vietnam is keen to learn from Japan’s experience in information technology (IT) as the country boasts strength in this field, said President of the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association Truong Gia Binh. Viettel to pilot 4G technology in rural areas next month

Viettel Group is going to pilot 4G technology in October, said Do Minh Phuong, deputy general director of the Viettel Group. Plans call for Viettel to set up 12,000 4G base transceiver stations no later than in the first quarter of next year, he added. The 4G network will first offer services in communes, followed by districts, provinces and cities. However, Viettel users will have to change SIM cards if they use 4G services, though phone numbers will remain the same. Japanese giant retailer Seven & I Holdings to enter Vietnam

Seven and Eleven convenient store chain is expected to make its debut in Vietnam in 2017, according to Japanese newspaper Nikkei.  US-based Seven Eleven Inc., a subsidiary of the Japanese retail conglomerate Seven & I Holdings, has signed a contract with IFB Vietnam, owner of the Pizza Hut restaurant chain in Vietnam, to open its first store in Ho Chi Minh City. Viettel’s Nexttel plans to increase Cameroon subscribers to 3m

Viettel Group’s Nexttel mobile network in Cameroon has signed up 2 million subscribers just nine months after being operations in that country. It has achieved a turnover of nearly US$29 million. With over 1,100 base transceiver stations (BTS), the company is able to provide 2G services to 70 per cent of the population. It also has the largest coverage area for 3G services in the country. Sanofi to open third pharmaceutical plant next quarter

Sanofi pharmaceutical group plans to commission its third factory in Vietnam at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in HCMC’s District 9 in the third quarter of this year. Eric NG, new chief executive officer (CEO) of Sanofi Indochina, told reporters in HCMC yesterday that the third plant currently under construction has an investment of US$75 million and is the biggest project of the company in the country. The facility has an initial capacity of 90 million units annually and will be expanded to produce 150 million units a year with a wide array of pharmaceuticals and healthcare products. LienVietPostBank arranges VND10 trillion for MobiFone

LienVietPostBank has signed a deal to arrange VND10 trillion loans for local mobile carrier MobiFone to carry out its medium and long-term projects. According to Vietnamplus, both sides will work with local electricity companies to launch a power bill payment service using MobiFone accounts. They will also launch a mobile phone fee collection service. They also agreed on the issuance of Macca simcard to provide information on macadamia tree development in the country.
