25 bridges to be built with JICA loans

The Prime Minister has approved the construction of 25 bridges with the second transport sector loan for the national road network improvement project.

The bridges’ total investment is about VND1.686 trillion ($75 million), funded by the Japan International Co-operation Agency ODA loans.

The PM asked the transport ministry to complete the investment procedures and to submit projects for approval as per legal regulations, and to ensure that the total investment does not exceed the amount of JICA loans.

The Nam Dinh People’s Committee has been requested to prepare a local budget for building the approach road from Tan Phong Bridge to National Road 21B, in accordance with the bridge construction process.

The new bridges will be built to replace 31 old ones that are not being used anymore or now belong to other projects such as the Ghep Bridge on National Road 1 from Thanh Hoa Province to Dien Chau District in Nghe An Province, and Xa Ot 2 Bridge on National Road 9.

The plan to replace old and dilapidated bridges on national roads has been implemented nationwide over two periods, with the funds coming from JICA loans. About 144 bridges were completed during the first period, while 82 are expected to be built during the second phase with a total investment of more than VND5.8 trillion (US$2.58 billion).
