Toshiba Corporation last week announced its continued commitment to granting scholarships for eligible individuals in Vietnam to get access to quality tertiary education through Vietnam National University Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) and Vietnam National University HCMC (VNU-HCMC).
On the occasion, the company hosted two ceremonies to mark the 10th year of scholarship awarding at VNU-Hanoi and VNU-HCMC. Toshiba has funded the scholarship program since 2005 which has benefited more than 400 recipients to date.
Toshiba will provide each of universities with 1.6 million yen per year. Selected post-graduate students will get annual scholarships covering tuition fees and living expenses.
Apart from scholarships, Toshiba established a laboratory to develop platform technology for embedded software and systems with the College of Technology (Coltech) of Vietnam National University in Hanoi in 2007. Meanwhile, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology is supported for its nuclear power course.
Prof. Dr. Phung Xuan Nha, president of VNU-Hanoi, hailed continuous commitment from Toshiba in bridging technologies and human talent in Vietnam and stressed the university could provide quality education.
Nha added the scholarship program will foster Vietnam-Japan ties, promote international and domestic businesses and open new opportunities and exchanges in the areas of business and culture.
Dr. Naoto Nishida, corporate executive vice president of Toshiba Corporation, said Toshiba believes that education is very important in nurturing the next generation and future leaders of Vietnam.
According to Nishida, Toshiba has been operating in Vietnam since 1996, and Toshiba Group has since added a manufacturing facility to produce high-efficiency motors and a software development company in Vietnam. Toshiba are seeking to expand businesses in this market.
