The Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform convened its 22nd session in Hanoi on September 18 to scrutinise projects on combating negative phenomena in judicial activities.
At the working session, representatives of the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) and the Supreme People’s Procuracy (SPP) presented reports on the projects, which feature the situation and solutions to the negative phenomena in their own field.
In its project, the court pointed to a range of shortcomings remained in the sector such as the low quality of judgment and violations of regulations committed by court officials.
To overcome such limitations, the project mapped out a package of solutions, including building and finalising legal documents on the organisation and operation of people’s courts, and draft procedural laws to revamp the organisation of trials.
The project also made it clear positions, rights and obligations of those involving in the procedural process, aiming to ensure transparency, democracy and strictness.
Meanwhile, the SPP frankly mentioned corruption and other bad deeds in judicial activities that have affected the quality and efficiency of the work and eroded public confidence in the sector.
The procuracy said it will continue to complete institutions, overhaul organization methods and improve the quality of inspection agencies of the SPC and the Central Military Procuracy.
The projects received appraisals from most of the committee’s members.
In his remarks, President Truong Tan Sang, who is also the committee’s head, underlined the need for delegates to clarify objectives and requirements of the fight against negative phenomena in judicial activities.
President Sang asked the court and the procuracy to acquire opinions of the committee’s members to improve the quality and efficiency of the projects.
The leader stressed the need for the two agencies to put forth new solutions suitable to each specific field, thoroughly grasp the Party’s guidelines and policies and the State’s laws on fighting corruption and other negative phenomena, and stick importance to personnel training.-VNA
