Sanofi pharmaceutical group plans to commission its third factory in Vietnam at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in HCMC’s District 9 in the third quarter of this year.
Eric NG, new chief executive officer (CEO) of Sanofi Indochina, told reporters in HCMC yesterday that the third plant currently under construction has an investment of US$75 million and is the biggest project of the company in the country.
The facility has an initial capacity of 90 million units annually and will be expanded to produce 150 million units a year with a wide array of pharmaceuticals and healthcare products. These products will be sold in Vietnam and exported to Asian markets like Japan and Hong Kong.
Sanofi said it would set up a research and development center at the new facility to support its operations in Vietnam. Some products of Sanofi will be manufactured at the new factory in the coming time.
Earlier, an executive of Sanofi told the Daily that as the company had two factories in HCMC, the company would build the third one here in the city to make the most of available resources and technology.
The new facility is also among major projects in the local pharmaceutical sector. The two other plants of Sanofi in HCMC are running at full capacity.
Sanofi is one of the world’s leading producers of healthcare products and has been present in Vietnam for over 50 years. The enterprise has created jobs for over 1,400 laborers and is the first multinational corporation having two facilities meeting the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) criteria of the World Health Organization in HCMC. Its products are sold on the domestic and Asian markets.
